Salt Conditions and BMST2015

Salt Course Conditions Update

Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials 2015
AMA Land Speed Grand Championship

We are still running.
We will be continuing to evaluate the conditions including a visit with our volunteer staff in the first half of August.

Over the past two weeks there have been a lot of discussions about the state of the Bonneville Salt Flats and the section that is used for racing, the Bonneville International Speedway. Those discussions and the conversations about salt conditions have been full of speculation and concern.

Our number one mission is to provide you the resources to set records at Bonneville. Today, we would like to clarify what we will be doing to race motorcycles.

  • We are still planning on racing.
  • We will announce an “Official Event Course Condition Update” by the second week of August.
  • There is over a month to BMST 2015 and this will likely result in a harder/better surface to run.
    • Think about last year and how rapidly conditions improved between events!
  • Not all of the salt, nor our course areas, are affected by the reported issues.

Boots on the Ground
We will have people in Wendover during the first weeks of August. We are also in contact with all of the land speed racing organizations sharing information about conditions and course prep.

What if SCTA cancels Speed Week?
As racers and event promoters we certainly hope they will be able to run this year. However, their decision does not affect our ability to run. Speed Week has a different set of requirements to setup and start their courses. We will be evaluating conditions and adjusting course locations to maximize the length of our courses right up to the last 3 days (when course dragging begins) before the event start.

What if BMST gets rained out or cancels?
Since this is an outdoor event, it’s always a concern. We have a variety of contingencies that could be brought to bear in the case this has to happen. Rest assured, we are all in this together and will be doing everything we can to ensure a great BMST 2015 event.

Official information
We’re busy getting ready to race and you should be too! As we get closer to the event, we will be sending more updates via our official channels: bonnevillespeedtrials.com, the mailing lists, Facebook, and Twitter.

It’s a pleasure to be able to work with so many amazing people every year. Each of you comes together to form the community of Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials. Coming together as a community to engage in racing against history.  Your camaraderie and sportsmanship, is what makes this one of the greatest events in all of motorcycling.

See you on the salt!

Sincerely,

Delvene Manning
Owner/Event Manager
